Jessica Fancy-Landry on Women’s Leadership and the Power of Community

19/03/2025

Last night, I had the honor of speaking at a Nova Scotia Women's Liberal Commission event alongside Shannon Miedema and Lena Metlege Diab, discussing what it means to be a woman in politics today. The energy in the room was incredible, filled with stories of perseverance, leadership, and the undeniable strength of women stepping up to represent their communities.

As your Federal Liberal Candidate for South Shore—St. Margarets, I know firsthand that running for office isn't just about policies and platforms—it's about showing up, listening, and empowering others.

Supporting Women in Politics

One of the biggest takeaways from the night was the importance of mentorship and encouragement. Lena, a fierce advocate in her own right, emphasized how critical it is for women to step forward with confidence. The other women on the call, many of whom have run for office before, shared insights, advice, and strategies for success.

A Look Inside My Canvassing Kit

I wrapped up my portion of the event with a bit of fun—a "purse check" where I shared the must-have items I carry while canvassing across South Shore—St. Margarets. Whether I'm knocking on doors in Liverpool, Shelburne, or Tantallon, I'm always prepared with:

✔️ Tic Tacs & breath mints (first impressions matter!)
✔️ Kleenex (Nova Scotia weather can be unpredictable!)
✔️ An extra pair of socks (for long days on the road)
✔️ Lint rollers (because dog hair is a fact of life)
✔️ Hand cream & throat lozenges (staying campaign-ready!)
✔️ A portable charger (because my phone is my lifeline for voter outreach)

(And yes, there's one more item I left out for the sake of social media—let's just say I believe in being over-prepared! 😂)

Why Representation Matters

Throughout my career—whether in education, community development, or advocacy—I've seen what happens when people feel unheard. Disempowerment leads to frustration, negativity, and division. But when we listen, engage, and support one another, we unlock real progress. That's exactly what I want to bring to Ottawa as your next MP.

The Underdog Advantage

I've always been underestimated. Maybe it comes from my background as an athlete, a small-town girl, and a community advocate. But I thrive on competition. I watch, I learn, and when it's my turn to speak—I bring the fire.

South Shore—St. Margarets deserves a champion. A candidate who listens. A leader who fights for real results. That's why I'm running.

If you believe in a future where affordable living, accessible healthcare, environmental protection, and rural economic growth are a priority, I'd love to hear from you.
